c. 1750 Historical Judaica Engraving of the 12 Tribes of Israel Displaying "THE CAMP OF THE ISRALITES."
c. 1750 Judaica, Rare Copper Plate Engraving titled, "THE CAMP OF THE ISRALITES. ... according to Reyherus, and according to Lamy." Displaying the 12 Tribes of Israel and their Camps, with Vignettes showing "Standards" the symbols of each Tribe, by I. Basire, Sculpt., Very Fine.
This rare Engraved Print measures about 14" x 9" ( 35 x 23 cm) being boldly printed in vivid black on period laid paper. It is highly detailed with a large vignette along the bottom of activities and the large fields of tents displayed. There is a short thin 2" long split at the upper right margin along a fold and a small .5" x 1" cut from the bottom selvage outside the plate margin both repaired with early paper on the reverse. Overall bright and clean with sharp details, including "The Tabernacle" at center with "Aaron" and "Moses" camp tents on either side. Each Tribe has an associated number likely indicating the population of each. Handsome and decorative early engraving for display.
