AN ANTIQUE MAP, "Orientaliora Indiarum Orientalium cum Insulus Adjacentibus a Promotorio C. Comoria ad Japan," AMSTERDAM, 1675-1680, hand color engraving on paper, a page fragment from Tabulae maritimae ofte Zee-Kaarten originally published by Frederick de Witt (1630-1704), after Pieter Goos (1616-1675), modern day territories of Australia, China, India, Laos, Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines and Indonesia overlaid with with rhumb lines and two compass roses, a lower figural cartouche of a Dutch merchant standing among a trade goods and symbols of wealth including a Ming dynasty double gourd vase, Korean celadon bottleneck vase, multi color silks, birdcages, monkeys, tobacco pipe smoker, an African attendant holding a parasol hung with grotto garland fantasy, a courtesan with lady in waiting holding a fan, and figures atop the roof, one strapped with a keris dagger. 17 1/2" x 21 1/2" Provenance: Property from a Corporate Art Collection.
Condition
Some fading and destabilization of hand coloring, some foxing and handling creases, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
