Ronald Reagan Signed Senate Bill as Governor
Document signed Senate Bill No. 121 consisting of pages 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Pages pulled apart with the signature double page spread mounted open, tacked along top edge to a board. Open double page size of 12" x 9". Dated "October 2, 1973", and signed by Ronald Reagan as Governor "Ronald Reagan". Additionally signed by James Mills as President of the Senate, Bob Moretti as Speaker of the Assembly, Darryl R. White as Secretary of the Senate, James D. Driscoll as Chief Clerk and the Private Secretary of the Governor. Two inch split along fold, else near fine and bright.
Ronald Reaganwas the Governor of California for two terms, the first beginning in 1967 and the second in 1971. He left office in 1975. California Republicans were impressed with Reagan's political views and charisma after his "Time for Choosing" speech, and in late 1965 he announced his campaign for Governor in the 1966 election. He defeated former San Francisco mayor George Christopher in the GOP. In Reagan's campaign, he emphasized two main themes: "to send the welfare bums back to work," and, in reference to burgeoning anti-war and anti-establishment student protests at the University of California at Berkeley, "to clean up the mess at Berkeley."
