Description
1850 1ed California & New Mexico Congress Reports GOLD Alta Mexico US President
‘California and New Mexico’ is a highly important mid-19th-century report on the development of the American west during the gold rush! This book included some of the earliest announcements of the discovery of gold in California. Published by the United States Congress, this report includes information on the US annexation of Alta California, the changes of Mexican rule into American jurisdiction in California, the Compromise of 1850, as well as, of course, the many reports of gold mining!
This book also includes correspondence and letters by several important American figures such as Stephen Kearny, William Tecumseh Sherman, John C Fremont, and Walter Colton all included in the message from President Zachary Taylor.
In 1850, two editions of this report were published – one sent to the House of Representatives and the other to the Senate. The House edition was dated January 21, while the Senate message was dated two days later. This edition states ‘House of Reps’ at the top of the first page of text. The Zamorano 80 also gives priority to this edition, over the Senate edition.
