Baron Frederic Trenck was a cunning soldier who served the Kind of Prussia, also known as Frederick the Great. Trenck's wild, often debaucherous behavior landed him into Magdeburg prison, where he lingered for ten years. Upon his release, he traveled to Paris to watch the revolution, only to be guillotined two days before Robespierre (in 1794), in response to rumors that he was an Austrian spy.
