Acrylic on canvas titled "Fahrenheit". 59 x 53 1/2 in. The following is his obituary: RALPH E. MARKER Federal Reserve Board Official Ralph E. Marker, 63, a Federal Reserve Board official who was a retired Army lieutenant colonel and combat veteran of two wars, died of cancer April 8 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He lived in Alexandria. He was financial accounting section manager of the Fed, where he had worked since 1966. Col. Marker, who had lived here since the 1960s, was a native of Salamanca, N.Y., and a graduate of Syracuse University. He joined the Army and received his commission during World War II. He was a combat infantryman in Europe during World War II and in Korea during the war there. He later held a variety of posts dealing with procurement and ordnance and graduated from several Army specialist schools, including its Command and Staff College. His last assignment, before retiring from active duty in 1966, was at the Pentagon. Col. Marker's military decorations included the Legion of Merit, two Combat Infantryman's Badges, two Bronze Stars, and the Army Commendation Medal. He was treasurer of the Alexandria Art League. An amateur painter, his work had been exhibited in Texas and Malta as well as such local spots as the Federal Reserve Board, and the Charles County Community College. His marriage to Eloise Marker ended in divorce. Survivors include his wife, Mariska, of Alexandria; a stepson, David Childs of Petersburg, Va., and a sister, Lily Hoffman of Fairfield, Ill. JOHN D. MICHAEL Baptist Minister The Rev. John D. Michael, 68, who had been minister of Briggs Memorial Baptist Church in Bethesda since moving to this area in 1986, died of cancer April 8 at Holy Cross Hospital. He lived in Silver Spring. At the time of his death, he also was president of the Czechoslovak Baptist Convention of the United States and Canada. He was on the general board and on the world support division of the Baptist Convention of the USA. Mr. Michael, who was born in Czechoslovakia, came to this country at an early age. He spent his childhood in Minneapolis and Cleveland. He was a graduate of Bob Jones University, where he also received a master's degree in religion. He received a second master's degree, in divinity, from the North Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago and a doctorate in ministry from the Luther Rice Seminary in Florida. He was ordained a Baptist minister in 1948. He led bilingual churches, in English and Slovak, in Minnesota and Ohio. He also led churches in Delaware and finally in Washington, Pa., before moving here. His first wife, the former Emily Paige, died in 1979. Survivors include his wife, Donna Michael, of Silver Spring; five children by his first marriage, Christine Torie of Wexford, Pa., Emily Temple of Silver Spring, Heather Lawrence of Washington, Pa., the Rev. John Jr., of Brownsville, Pa., and Stephen P., of Charleston, S.C.; a stepson, John A. Kurtz of Milford, Conn.; two sisters, Anne Perry of Cleveland and Mary Forster of Brecksville, Ohio, and three grandsons. PETER J. TEES Canadian Officer & Local Salesman Peter J. Tees, 66, a retired Canadian Army major and combat veteran of two wars who was a Washington area sales respresentative from 1968 to 1987, died April 8 at Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, Va., after a heart attack. He lived in Basye, Va. Major Tees, who lived in the Washington area from 1966 to November 1988, was a native of Vancouver, B.C. He attended the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto. He joined the Canadian Army during World War II, serving with the field artillery in Europe. After some time in civilian life, he returned to the Canadian Army in 1949. He served in Korea during the war there as an air observation pilot in a British Royal Air Force unit and earned Britain's Distinguished Flying Cross. After that, he held posts in Canada and with NATO. He also was a liaison officer at bases in this country before coming to Washington in 1966 as a staff officer at the Candian embassy. He retired from the embassy and the Army in 1968. He then worked as a sales representative with Gichner Mobil Systems, which makes specialized shelters for electronic equipment, until retiring a second time. His first wife, Doris Bryson Tees, died in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Kenworthy Tees of Basye; three children by his first marriage, Barbara Turner of Woodbridge, Sarah Tees of Falls Church, and U.S. Army Sgt. Peter Christopher Tees of Fort Lewis, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Knight of Indianapolis; a stepson, Jonathan Kenworthy of Basye, and a grandson. JOHN E. STRONG TV Technician John Edgar Strong, 72, a retired Washington television broadcast technician and past chapter president of the National Association of Broadcast Electricians and Technicians, died of cancer April 8 at his home in Inman, S.C. Mr. Strong, a former McLean resident who lived in this area from 1920 to 1982, was born in the Panama Canal Zone. He served with the Navy in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. He became a television technician after the war and joined the old WMAL-TV about 1954. He retired from that station, now WJLA-TV, in 1981. He had been a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Falls Church. His first wife, the former Helen Scott, died in 1982. Survivors include his wife, the former Edith McMillin, of Inman; three children by his first marriage, Michael, of Clinton, John Scott Strong of Falls Church, and Sherrill Strong of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Margaret Jewell of Washington; two stepchildren, and three stepgrandchildren.
