Description
Dimensions: 12-7/8" H x 6-1/2" Diam.

Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Qianlong pastel day duck bottle. Finely potted in a baluster shaped vase, with tall ovoid body, rounded shoulder tapering gracefully to a prominent straight neck below the flared rim, raised on flat base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the Wucai design color. Wucai or five-color shades and tones, brightly painted in Wucai design, Opaque colors around the exterior, between the filling motif decorated in colorful vivid sgraffito ground of uptala. The main body delicately be depicted with several Chinese duck on the ground beside the peace Lishui water river interspersed with various floral, fresh foliage and grass. Ducks when portrayed in pictures or on porcelain denote a wish for happiness, especially when combined with a lotus. The Mandarin duck is so named because of its self importance and flamboyant plumage like the high officials yuan mandarins of the Imperial court. It symbolizes loyalty as the ducks mate for life and it is said that when one dies its mate will pine away and also die. Often the mandarin drake is shown with a lotus flower in its beak and its mate with a lotus fruit with the meaning of a wish for children. They are a popular motif on wedding gifts. A mandarin duck and a butterfly together signifies unrequited young love. A duck amongst reeds yi jia lian ke gives the wish for good luck in examinations, a reed is a homophone for passing exams. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. a feast for the eye.
