Stunning, Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Fish pot. Finest porcelain potted thick and sturdy, deep vessels, steep sides from round with small broad base, wide opening mouth rim and raised round flat base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The exterior adorned with swimming carp interspersed with flowers water plants, scrolling ruyi clouds, wavy Lishui water. The Carp Similar sounding to the word "Business" in Chinese, the carp symbolizes a wish for benefit or advantage in business, and accepted to represent longevity, wealth, abundance, and perseverance. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze deep blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The underside lifted unglazed, with pale-creme base spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the carving, and the shape. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, and distinct.
Mark under the rim, a horizontal six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double frame borders, Wanli Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
