A formal black and white portrait photograph of U.S. Supreme Court Justices Earl Warren, Felix Frankfurter, Hugo L. Black, Stanley Reed, William O. Douglas, John M. Harlan, Harold H. Burton, Tom C. Clark, and William J. Brennan, Jr. Photographed by Ackad Studios in Washington, D.C. on January 29, 1957. Signed in stone at lower right. Pen-inscribed verso. Expected surface wear including scattered wrinkles, else near fine. 16" x 11".
The nine Supreme Court justices of the Warren Court, (named after Chief Justice Earl Warren) posed against a draped back drop in two rows. From left to right, back to front, these justices include:
- John M. Harlan II (1899-1971), as "John M. Harlan", served as Associate Justice between 1955-1971
- Harold H. Burton (1888-1964), as "Harold H. Burton", served as Associate Justice between 1945-1958
- Tom C. Clark (1899-1977), as "Tom C. Clark", served as Associate Justice between 1949-1967
- William J. Brennan, Jr. (1906-1997), as "Wm J. Brennan Jr.", served as Associate Justice between 1956-1990
- Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965), as "Felix Frankfurter -", served as Associate Justice between 1939-1962
- Hugo L. Black (1886-1971), as "Hugo L. Black", served as Associate Justice between 1937-1971
- Earl Warren (1891-1974), as "Earl Warren", served as Chief Justice between 1953-1969
- Stanley Reed (1884-1980), as "Stanley Reed", served as Associate Justice between 1938-1957. Reed's term officially ended one month after this photograph was taken, in late February 1957.
