An original antique print, ST. JAMES'S PALACE, depicting the senior royal palace in the United Kingdom. One of only two surviving palaces owned by Henry VIII. From Original Views of London As It Is by artist and lithographer Thomas Shotter Boys. Presented in an antique linen matte with gilt trim and custom wood frame.
An original antique print, ST. JAMES'S PALACE, a view of the north front from Cleveland Row, depicting the main entrance of St James's Palace in Pall Mall. Located in Westminster, St James's Palace is the most senior royal palace in the United Kingdom. Built by King Henry VIII on the site of a leper hospital, it is along with Hampton Court Palace, one of only two surviving palaces of the many owned by Henry VIII. From Original Views of London As It Is, by the artist and lithographer Thomas Shotter Boys. A ca. 1880 lithograph made after the 1842 original. Boys (1803-1874) garnered enormous prestige from this and his earlier work, Picturesque Views in Paris, Ghent... (1839). The accuracy of his portraits of buildings and his skill in the composition has seldom been bettered (Mallalieu, Dictionary of British Watercolor Artists, p.38). Presented in an antique linen matte with gilt trim and custom wood frame.
