Description

A wool and burlap hooked rug from the Maritimes, the farmyard scene depicting a pink house on green grass with cows, sheep, a horse, and a red-headed girl feeding the chickens. A dog stands at the apple tree while a farmer leads a horse into the barn. A black border with an inner floral - leaf motif frames the scene like a painting. A rug with similar elements and undoubtedly by the same hand is illustrated in Folk Art: Primitive and Naive Art in Canada. Nova Scotia, circa 1900. Illustrated: Celebrating Canada, page 143. H: 31"; W: 49". // Tapis crocheté en laine et toile de jute des Maritimes, la ferme avec maison rose sur gazon vert, les vaches, moutons, cheval et fillette nourrissant les poules, un chien debout près du pommier, un fermier mène son cheval dans la grange. Bordure noire autour d’un motif de fleurs et de feuilles encadre la scène. Tapis semblable sans doute fait par la même personne présentée dans Folk art: Primitive and naïve art in Canada de McKendry.
