Description
This lot consists of a gorgeous watercolor illustration on paper, done in the charming style of Parisian society painter, Jean Dufy (French, 1888-1964). Image depicts a lush interior still life scene, painted with tremendous care and aptitude. A peach, a bouquet of flowers, and a milk-white bowl sit in soft but dramatic light. Saturated with rich and exuberant color, this piece would be a stunning addition to any collection. Unframed measures approximately 21" x 17.5".
Jean Dufy (French, 1888-1964) was born into a large family, the younger brother of the modernist painter, Raoul Dufy (French, 1877-1953). Jean Dufy's career as a painter was deeply influenced by Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926), Andre Derain (French, 1880-1954), and Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963). Dufy was preoccupied with sweeping Norman landscapes, the Impressionist style, and painterly expressions of familiar life scenes. His work is sensitive to the beauty of the everyday, each brush stroke a celebration thereof.
