Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery figure known as a 'pretty lady' with delineated legs, a twisted belt, attenuated arms, and a broad chest adorned with a hoop-form medallion. The abstract visage is comprised of impressed ovoid eyes, a petite triangular nose, a miniscule mouth, discoid earspools, and a pointed chin, all beneath a centrally-parted coiffure accentuated with a large roundel with serrated edges. Faint red and red-orange pigment adorns the head and body of the figure. Size: 1.9" W x 3.3" H (4.8 cm x 8.4 cm); 3.7" H (9.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Head reattached to neck with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines, and restoration to right leg and leg band. Minor nicks to body and head, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory number written in black ink behind one leg.
