Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A finely-hammered, high-grade (96%) silver plaque with a depiction of Diana (Greek Artemis), goddess of the hunt, standing in repousse upon the top of a Corinthian capital. Diana wears a flowing himation and hold both arms out to her sides with one holding a slender, curved bow and the other a crescent-moon-shaped lyre. Lunar motifs are also linked to the Greek goddess Artemis as well as the Roman Juno. Her puffy face exhibits petite eyes and a bulbous nose beneath centrally-parted bangs and a flowing veil. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.125" W x 3.2" H (5.4 cm x 8.1 cm); quality of silver: 96%; total weight: 8.4 grams.
