Description: This is a very old painting by whom we believe might be a Giovanni Balducci. The original painting of La Madonna della Seggiola was done by Raphael. This version is different from Raphael's. If you look at some of the other works of the Madonna, the baby Jesus, and John the Baptist as a child by Balducci you can see the similarities in face, hair and overall painting style. The signature on the back, although faded, seems to match a signature of Balducci's we have seen.
This piece has been repaired, and placed on another stretcher frame. There are three repairs on the back and a few small areas of missing paint (see pictures). There is cracqlaure as expected with age. The frame is not original. Overall it is a wonderful rendition of La Madonna della Seggiola. Mother and child seated.
This piece is similar to Raphael's but not the same. La Madonna della Seggiola has been copied by many artist until today, all follow the same painting as Raphael's. This one is different in its own way. The canvas is old and seems to be of the period and time after Raphael.
