DESCRIPTION: Nonkoku and Nanho Osawa (Ozawa) scroll. The Old Couple of Takasaga or Emotion of Conjugal Love. Depicting and elderly couple outdoors. Chop marks and signature lower right. Calligraphy upper left. Marked in ink verso "Painted on a piece of my dear wife's wedding robe for her by Mr. and Mrs. Ozawa of Tokyo. Edward Greey." in enamel box. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Edward Greey. Greey spent six years on a naval expedition in Asia learning the art and culture of the region. In 1868 he moved to New York and opened an art gallery that is credited with with creating a new appreciation for Japanese art in America. From family through descent. MEASUREMENTS: Sight 25" x 7". Overall 51" x 10-1/2". CONDITION: Excellent. Minimal rippling to silk.
