Thomas Albert Stone (1894-1978, English-Canadian) was born in Herefordshire, England in 1894. He immigrated to Toronto in1914 and later lived in Mississauga. Stone studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and was awarded the Governor Generals Award for that year's outstanding student. Stone continued his studies under Andre L. Hote in Paris as well as at the Academie Moderne. He became a member and director of the Ontario Society of Artist in the 1930s and held the first ever one-man show at the Art Gallery of Toronto (now the Art Gallery of Ontario). He died in 1978 in Ontario, Canada.
