Description
624. White Rabbit puppet from Alice in Wonderland. (Lou Bunin Productions, 1949) Perhaps the most important Alice in Wonderland figure, as he appears in the beginning drawing and makes the journey to the Royal court. He is also the scoundrel who knows who stole the Queen's tarts, but decides to frame Alice for the theft. This puppet wears the costume seen during the Caucus and Jury scene and is constructed of Bunin's own rubberized foam compound for the flexible skin over a special wrapped wire armature. It wears a complete ensemble of shirt with shiny buttons, bow tie, three-button vest, overcoat and black wool cape with red heart and white ribbon collar and holds an umbrella in its right hand. The head has come loose from the armature and is held only by the cotton wadding underneath. The puppet was also reused for a segment of The Perry Como Show. Measures 11 in. tall. Exhibits minor cracking and wear; otherwise, remarkable condition for its age.
