Description
Maxim Bugzester (1909 - 1978); Oil on Gesso Panel signed lower right recto, of an Expressionist / Fauve Faceless pair of Chess Players hunched over a square board on a round table; framed. Art appears in good condition with even alligatoring to paint surface, not examined out of frame; frame chipped and stained to mat surround. Height of art 8 7/8 inches (22.5 cm.) X width of art 11 7/8 inches (30.2 cm.). NOTE: Maxim Bugzester (1909 - 1978) was a Polish painter born in Stanislaviv Ukraine, then part of Poland, of Ruthenian-Jewish parents. Bugzester grew up in Vienna, studied at the Academy in Vienna, and then at age fourteen studied with the German Expressionist Karl Schmidt-Rutloff; later befriending Georges Braque and Pierre Bonnard. He was famous for his existential faceless figures.
