Description
Enzo Plazzotta (Italian/British, 1921-1981), monumental patinated bronze sculpture titled 'Adam,' executed 1975 and cast cire perdue by Morris Singer in England, stamped with artist's device & signature to side of base, 70.5"h x 22"w x 26"d. Accompanied by a photocopied replacement Certificate of Authenticity. Born in Mestre near Venice in 1921, Enzo Plazzotta began his formal studies in sculpture at the Accademia di Brera in Milan at 17. World War II forced the artist to abandon his training and instead volunteer in North Africa with the Bersaglieri. After a series of dramatic wartime events, Plazzotta eventually returned to Brera to complete his studies, and was awarded a commission from the Italian Committee of Liberation. After running an agency in London which imported Milanese design, he returned to sculpting around 1960 and kept a studio near Carrara where the famous marble is quarried. In 1976, in recognition of his services to Italian art, Plazzotta received the title of Cavaliere from the Italian government. He died in 1981 at the age of sixty.
