Description
6th century AD. A large bronze tongue-shaped belt buckle with large palmette to one end, two teardrop-shaped panels to the centre, each with incised image of a stylised bird, a rectangular panel with stylised two-headed beast to the other end; two loops to the rear, five further loops to the underside. 95 grams, 11.3cm (4 1/4"). From an old British private collection; ex Mr. D. M., acquired in the 1990s. [No Reserve]
