Set of Four Late Federal Stenciled and Caned "Fancy" Side Chairs, possibly by John Banks, New York

Each fitted with squab cushions.

31 1/2 x 17 3/4 x 20 1/2 in.

Note: The identical side chair was exhibited at The Newark Museum, "Classical America 1815-1845:, 1963, and illustrated in the catalog plate #51, listed as New York or Philadelphia circa 1820-25. It was lent by The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Another example is in Winterthur Museum, Delaware.

Condition

Wear is consistent with age and use. Scuffing, nicks and minor losses throughout. Wear to the painted surface throughout. Structurally sound. Caning is sound.
