1730 1ed SIAM Asia Bangkok WARS Memoirs of Claude Forbin French Navy England 2v
A rare first edition printing of Claude de Forbin’s famous ‘Memoirs’. Forbin was a celebrated French naval commander who is remembered for his diplomatic endeavors in East Asia. He became the governor of Bangkok and was appointed general in the Siamese army. In addition to his military contests in Asia, he played an important role in the War of Spanish Succession and various naval skirmishes with England.
While the work suggests it was written by Forbin himself, it was likely composed and published by his secretary Simon Reboulet.
