Since childhood, art has been a constant in Juan Dubalon’s life. Though he considers himself an autodidact, his social education, studies, extensive international travel, exposure and appreciation for other Cuban artists have influenced him both on a personal and artistic level. Similar to the spirit of the artist, Juan Dubalon’s works are reflections of the pursuit of happiness. Subject matter such as butterflies and people are tangled amidst bandages and restrictions; only freed by their own determination and courage.
