Description
7th-9th century AD. A large ceramic jar comprising a segmented round body and four stub feet, four knop finials above and notched collar to the shoulder, conical neck rising to a stylised bird(?) head with beak forming a short spout, domed eyes, crown with curled horns, strap handle to the rear and filling hole above; body painted red with dense spiral and other tendrils, geometric bands to the shoulder and head. 4.3 kg, 33cm (13"). From an old Tokyo collection; previously the property of a Japanese gentleman since the 2000s. [No Reserve]
