George James was advised by Walter Scott to start a literary career. The Last of the Fairies is a charming children's tale about fairies, with colorful boarders to each page. Illustrated from designs by John Gilbert, engraved by Henry Vizetelly. Gilbert was a Romantic painter, who illustrated editions of Shakespeare and Walter Scott.

An uncommon edition of this charming children book about fairies, with binding of red rib grain cloth over boards. Panel stamp blocked in blind. Title and illustration blocked in gold on upper cover and spine. Gilt edges. A frontispiece illustrated title page, and nine plates.This piece features a colorful cover with illustrations throughout.
