Description
The Sculpture, The Kiss, was originally titled Francesca da Rimini, as it depicts the 13thcentury Italian noblewoman immortalised in Dantes Inferno who falls in love with her husband Giovanni Malatestas younger brother Paolo. Having fallen in love while reading the story of Lancelot and Guinevere, the couple are discovered and killed by Francescas husband and sent to the 2nd circle of the hell for lust. The lovers lips do not actually touch in the Sculpture, suggesting that they were interrupted and met their demise without their lips ever having touched. When critics first saw the Sculpture in 1887, they suggested the less specific title Le Baiser The Kiss. This masterful work of art was molded using the age old methods of lost wax casting and stained with a Gold patina finish. It is mounted upon a marble base. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base: Height 7 X Width 4 inches. Weight: 5 LBS.
