The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge connects Queens and the Bronx. It was originally proposed in 1905 however, funding was not approved until 1936 and it opened to traffic on April 29, 1939. The bridge was designed by Othmar Ammann and has six lanes of traffic.

Charles Ernest Pont (1898-1971) was born in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, France on January 6, 1898. He was adopted by a German immigrant couple in New York City. He is best known as a book and magazine illustrator, however, he was a prolific watercolorist and printmaker. His work is in the Museum of Modern Art, and The Smithsonian American Art Museum.
