Title: Great God Pan.
Adolf Dehn (1895-1968)
Medium: Lithograph, 1939.
Signed, titled and dated in pencil, inscribed "35 prints." Printed by George Miller. Nuns gather around a pond where Pan, the patron god of shepherds and flocks in Greek mythology, frolics in the water.
Edition 35.
Image size 9 11/16 x 13 13/16" (245 x 344 mm).
Condition: Very good condition, wide margins, save for very faint light discoloration.
Adolf Dehn (1895-1968) printmaker and painter was born in Waterville, Minnesota on November 22, 1895. He studied at the Minneapolis School of Art he and his friend Wanda Gag earned a scholarship to study at the Art Students League. After WWI he traveled to Europe living in Paris and Vienna. He produced a group of lithographs during this time that were reproduced in Vanity Fair. As an artist his images fall into two groups, caricature and landscape, he was superb at both. His ability to capture human interaction and create an image from it ranks him as one of the great artistic satirists of his era.
