Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Olmec period, Tlatilco people, Tlapacoya, ca. 1250 to 800 BCE. A beautifully-preserved figure of a stylized woman standing atop a pair of attenuated conical legs. She wears a vertically-striated skirt above a portly abdomen and perky breasts and has attenuated arms projecting from rounded shoulders. Her head exhibits carefully-sculpted characteristics such as slit-form eyes, veristic lips, a slender nose, and tall ears, all beneath a centrally-parted coiffure with lengthy bangs draped atop her shoulders and a thick band wrapped around the front. Faded red pigment is visible across the orange-slipped composition. Size: 2" W x 5.875" H (5.1 cm x 14.9 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Repair to head and one arm with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Small nicks and abrasions to body, limbs, and head, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and traces of original pigmentation throughout.
