Description
Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) Attributed: Marilyn Monroe, signed bottom and verso, stamped True Color, NY verso, framed.
Perhaps his most iconic work, Andy Warhol's portraits of Marilyn Monroe will forever go down as an icon of Pop Art. Produced by Warhol shortly after Monroe's death in 1962, these prints were based on a promotional photograph taken in 1953 by Gene Korman, sparking a debate on the legality and boundaries of appropriation in art. With the ongoing success of this composition, it has been said that Warhol extended Marilyn’s career past her allotted "fifteen minutes of fame" and catapulted her to an unprecedented level of stardom.
8 x 11.5" paper, 15.5 x 19" Frame
