Circa 1900 Japanese cut velvet or Yuzen Birodo painting, a dyeing and weaving artistic technique used in Japan since the 17th century. This example shows a figure in a sampan near the shore of a lake, the scene dominated by a vibrant yellow-leafed tree. A few small holes in fabric, visible only upon close examination.
