BIOGRAPHY:
Chotai Yonaha was born in 1933 in the island town of Ishigaki, near Okinawa Prefecture. Exhibited in galleries around the world including the Air Force Hall of Fame, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and art galleries in New York City, Paris and Honolulu. In the 1970's he was recognized by the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum, he received the ˜New Comer Award at the New Art Association Exhibition of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Received the Chairman's Gold Prize in the Okinawa Prefecture Industry Design Competition. During the 80's he was again recognized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, winning the coveted Korin Award. Awarded Grand Prize at the Shinsei Art Exhibition. In the 1990's won numerous awards and prizes, culminating with his painting of historic Shuri Castle, incorporated on a Japanese Okinawa prefecture postage stamp. He died in 2008.
