From the book Liber Veritatis, a remarkable work in which Lorrain made a drawing of each of the paintings he had made, reportedly as a record should another artist copy one of his works and claim credit. The original sketchbook, a masterpiece in its own right, was in the possession of the Dukes of Devonshire from the early 18th C. to 1957, and is now housed in the British Museum. The artist died in 1682, and publisher John Boydell and engraver Richard Earldom produced the printed book from after the sketchbook from 1774-1777. Offered here are No. 38 (published April 25, 1774,) and no. 190, (published March 1st, 1777) of 200 different images. Handsomely framed, plate marks visible. Frames, approx. 16" x 14". Image area, approx. 10 1/4" x 8 1/4".
