Description
Listed 20th/21st century Massachusetts artist, Portuguese/American. Oils on canvas whaling bark Wanderer ship paintings. The originals done by Apolph and Guba (Pairpoint Company, artists New Bedford Mass.) The Wanderer was put to sea on Aug. 25, 1924 for one last whaling voyage. The next morning she was on the rocks at Sow & Pigs Reef at Cuttyhunk Island off the coast of Massachusetts. The New Bedford Whaling Museum was able to obtain several artifacts, including her gilded eagle figurehead. Wanderer’s demise made the Charles W. Morgan the world's last surviving wooden whale ship. Images 30 inches x 40 inches. Both signed lower right.
