Item Details
Description
1922 "Babe" Ruth Signed Baseball. Very early OAL (Johnson) sphere might be worth tens of thousands if Ruth was the only man to lay pen to horsehide here, as his sweet spot signature is a phenomenal 9+/10, and that quotation-marked, stylized, slightly smaller format that precedes the World Championship Yankees era. And the fact is, the ball practically does present as a single, as this tough and highly coveted signature variation appears on the sweet spot with just one other significantly less prominent autograph on the southern panel, and that signer's equally light personalization and "1922" date on the northern side. We're fairly convinced that this other signature is simply a civilian who gifted the Ruth single to a friend, edging the ball ever closer to true "single" status. In any case, early Ruth autographs on baseballs remain highly prized among discerning collectors, and you'll find few finer. A thrilling relic predating The House that Ruth Built. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 100-110 lots per hour. On some occasions the Live Auctioneer bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject a Live Auctioneer Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the Live Auctioneers live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via Live Auctioneers, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since Live Auctioneer bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the Live Auctioneer bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie Live Auctioneer bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through Live Auctioneers carry a 19.50% Buyer's Premium with a $14 minimum Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Auctions. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Auctions, and all other information should be considered preliminary.
