Description
American Classical Carved Rosewood Pier Table, early 19th c., Philadelphia, possibly Anthony Quervelle, marble top, bolection frieze, acanthine scrolled supports, mirrored back, shaped base, h. 38 1/2 in., w. 38 1/4 in., d. 17 3/4 in . Provenance: The Stanley Weiss Collection, Providence, RI. Note: The sophisticated pier table offered here is a rare rosewood example of Philadelphia pier tables that relate closely to cabinetmaker Anthony G. Quervelle. The table’s distinctively carved acanthine scrolled supports, overall proportions, and the uniquely shaped elliptical lower shelf are similar features to Quervelle pier tables illustrated in Robert C. Smith’s comprehensive multipart article on Quervelle furniture published by The Magazine Antiques.
