Description
1897 1ed Travels in West Africa Mary Kinglsey PAGAN Worship Human Sacrifice
Mary Kingsley was a 19th-century traveler who twice made voyages to West Africa with the intention of studying primitive religions, cultures, and people groups. Her first voyage took her to the Congo, Corisco, and Cameroon where she worked and studied cannibalism between the Ogowe and Rembve rivers. It was mostly from this first voyage that the British views and perceptions of Africa changed throughout the 19th-century.
‘Travels in West Africa’ is an important account of the pagan ‘fetish’ practices of African tribes, devil worship, and human sacrifice. This work also, more delicately and humorously, discusses natural science findings such as fish and other animals
