Book Details: This lot consists of two volumes featuring the 173D Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War, as shown in the corresponding images. Titles in this group include:

Dak To: The 173rd Airborne Brigade in South Vietnam’s Central Highlands, June-November 1967, by Edward F. Murphy, 1993. Presidio; original dust jacket.

Vietnam the Second Year: 173D Airborne Brigade (Separate); A Pictorial History, Edited by Lt. Jeffrey S. McKay, (1967); photographs; 9†x 11/75â€. From 1961 to 1963, the Army began reorganizing its force so that each division would have a similar structure, which would vary depending on the type of division it was. This move was called the Reorganization Objective Army Division (ROAD) plan. The plan eliminated regiments by reintroduced brigades to the Army’s structure, allowing three brigades to a division. The reorganization also allowed for the use of “separate†brigades which had no division headquarters and could be used for missions that did not require an entire division. The 173th Brigade was selected to become a separate brigade and a special airborne task force, which could rapidly act independently. The 173d Airborne Brigade (Separate) was born on 26 March 1963 on the Island of Okinawa and became the quick reaction force for the United States Pacific Command.
