Description
First half 19th century, 173 x 110 cm, Central Asia, South West Uzbekistan
This gorgeous suzani in the nim format was made in Kermina. Finely embroidered in the ilmoq chain stitch throughout, it belongs to the same type as an example in the Vok Collection; we refer readers to our comprehensive discussion in that catalogue. Both items have the same field design and identical colours, but there are differences in the ornamentation of their single-stripe borders. Here, fifteen large, alternately top-view and side-view blossoms are framed by sweeping green leaves. – Slight signs of age and wear, good overall condition. Backed with canvas.
RIPPON BOSWELL, A 91, Vok Collection, Selection 3. 25 March 2017, # 224
