Description
Antique Eskimo Whale Bone Hunter
From the northern Alaskan region, perhaps the outer Bering Straits, an Eskimo work, a carved figure of a native seagoing huntsman, likely, once part of a group. Rare in any case, the rather nice sized figure is crafted of natural white whale or walrus bone, the composition made of 4 parts and a base peg, both arms and spear carved and attached. Eyes are an inlay of unknown material, the whole likely dates from about 1910 to the 1930's, its presence would certainly be enhanced with a decent base. 4.5" height (head to feet)
