Will Rogers Signed Photo
6.75" x 9" black and white photograph of humorist Will Rogers (1879-1935) signed by him as "Will Rogers" along a diagonal orientation in the lower right corner. The photo is signed in stone "Keystone / L.A." at lower right, and is also stamped "Keystone Photo Service / 1231 South Olive St. / WE 9161 / Los Angeles, Calif." in an oval cartouche found verso. Expected wear including a few scuffs and wrinkles to the photo surface. Minor mounting traces verso. A home-made metallic-finished frame can easily be removed. With frame measures 7.875" x 10".
Will Rogers was one of the early-twentieth-century's most versatile entertainers. Rogers, who was of mixed white and Cherokee heritage, was proud of his Western upbringing and cultivated a folksy style that the American public found irresistible. He began his 30-year-long show business career as a trick roper on the vaudeville circuit. From these humble beginnings, Rogers went on to act and star in over 70 silent movies and talkies. In addition to acting, Rogers was a popular newspaper columnist, lecturer, social commentator, and all-around national sage.
