French Christmas carol book, 16th century, c. 1520, [Christmas] Untitled Noel, songs as written down, printed and sold by Jehan Olivier, hardcover, marbled sides and endpapers, 3.5"w x 5"h, 32 printed pages, without title page as issued, possibly lacking signature C, hand-written additional song or prayer written on two blank pages at end, binding attrib. to Bauzonnet-Trauts
Provenance: Letter of provenance from noted bookseller Wilfrid Voynich, with envelope, laid in: Collection of Duc de la Valliere (de Bure catalogue of the Duc's library, II, no. 3081), acquired by bookseller Laujon for Meon, thence in 1803 to Chardin, then library of Soleinne, acquired by Baron Jerome Pichon, who broke up the collection and had each carol bound separately (Deschamps II, 30-31); thence to Wilfrid M. Voynich, his pencilled notes at front of book
