Description
1831 1ed WHALING Hiram Paulding Voyages Journal Dolphin Mutiny Galapogos Hawaii
Aboard the USS Dolphin in 1825, Hiram Paulding, a United States naval officer, pursued the ongoing mutiny of the whaling ship the Globe. While searching for this ship, Paulding and the rest of the crew made visits to various Pacific islands including the Galapagos Islands, the Marquesas, and the Mulgraves, where they found only two survivors of the mutiny – William Lay and Cyrus Hussey.
Paulding gives details of this voyage and rescue in his ‘Journal of a Cruise’ in which he describes the natives he encountered, as well as the reception of the first American ship to enter Honolulu, Hawaii.
