Description
1774 1ed Voyages Captain Cook Pacific Ocean Wallis Carteret Hawaii 4v Hawkesworth
John Hawkesworth was an important English book editor, most known for his commission to edit Captain James Cook’s ‘Voyages’. First published in 1773, Hawkesworth edition of ‘Account of the Voyages’ included the stories of various important excursions, such as John Byron, Captain Wallis, Carteret, and of course James Cook. Sadly, many critics disapproved of his work claiming it to be inaccurate; even though that may or may not have been the case. He describes the customs and manners of the people living in the South Seas, as well as specific highlights from the voyages.
