English School (second half, 17th century), a matrimonial pair of portrait miniatures, Roger Palmer, Earl of Castlemaine and Barbara Palmer, Countess of Castlemaine (née Villiers, later mistress of Charles II and Duchess of Cleveland in her own right), each dressed in the Restoration fashion, the earl with flowing brown hair and wearing a lace cravat, the countess with dressed brown hair and ringlets, wearing a string of baroque pearls with conforming earrings and a lace-trimmed blue dress, ovals, oils on copper, 7.6cm x 6cm, early 19th century gilt-metal frames, each inscribed to verso Lord Castlemaine and Lady Castlemaine, coiled crestings centred by suspension loops
