Description
STANISLAW II: (1732-1798) Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Last King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania 1764-95. Lover of Catherine the Great, he was a great patron of the arts, but still remains a controversial figure in Polish history. An excellent L.S., `Stanislaus Augustus Rex´, beneath a holograph in his hand `Bonus Frater et Cognatus´, one page, folio, Warsaw, 20th September 1788, to King Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies, at the time of the present letter King of Naples and Sicily, in Latin. Stanislaw II refers to the letter received from King Ferdinand and congratulates him for the new born Prince Carlo Gennaro. Prince Carlo would die of Smallpox only few months later. With blank address leaf, bearing a very large and attractive blind embossed royal paper seal, stating ''Stanislaus Augustus D.G.Rex Poloniae M.Dux Lith. Rus. Prus. Mas…''. Folded, with very small overall age wear, otherwise VG £600-900 Ferdinand I (1751-1825) King of the Two Sicilies 1816-25, after his restoration following victory in the Napoleonic Wars. Before that he had been, since 1759 Ferdinand III of the Kingdom of Sicily and Ferdinand IV of Naples.
