TWAIN MARK: (1835-1910) American Writer. Born Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Mark Twain being his pen name, and best known for his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). A.L.S., `S.L. C´, one page, 4to, n.p., 25th August 1888, to Bren. Twain refers to a book he is writing and explains what is his scheduled plan stating in part `Good; and I am particularly glad the stock is back.. it is noble good stuff, and he got it for me originally..´ further saying `I´ve got 16 working days left yet, before I go West (if I go), and in that time I will do another 120,000 words to my book if I have luck. I shall be home the 23rd or 24th of September and have the book done the end of October. I shall publish it a year later.´ The book Mark Twain refers to could possibly be A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, first published in December 1889.
