Description
Alexej von Jawlenksy (Russian-German, 1864-1941) Attributed: Oil on canvas, signed bottom left, framed. Alexej von Jawlensky was a Russian expressionist painter working in Germany and a prominent member of three notable groups: the New Munich Artist’s Association, Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), and Die Blaue Vier (The Blue Four). His compositions are renowned for its directional brushstrokes, distinct facial features, and innovative use of color. During World War II, Adolf Hitler exhibited many of von Jawlensky’s pieces in his infamous Degenerate Art exhibition.
