Description
Charles Frodsham (British, founded 1834) 8 day marine chronometer, circa 1870. Number 0041, silvered face, dial with up and down indicator, spotted plate with Earnshaw's spring detent, Kullberg's auxiliary compensation, helical hairspring, brass bowl and gimbal mount, two-tiered mahogany case with brass hardware. Approx. w. 8.25", h. 8..625", d. 8.25" Exhibited: Asprey, London, Exhibition of Marine Chronometers, December 7-19 1987.
Condition
In working condition. Key is present. No apparent scratches to crystal face. Minor oxidation to metal case. No apparent scratches to glass presentation area, tiny scuffs. top. Movement in good condition -- slight bend to one hand - not distracting. Wooden case has minor surface scratches. Minor fading to wood finish. Abrasion and loosened to area where hinge meets case - glue residue present. Has green felt to underside of box. Bone disk has a few scatters cracks.
